Band/Choir Policies

REHEARSAL TIME: 7th period, 11:50-12:30 Monday through Friday

Parents are welcome and encouraged to attend whenever they are visiting.

GRADING: There is (a) no specific practice time requirement for a grade

In our group, each member starts the year with an "A". If you (meet the practice requirement and) know your parts and make a positive contribution you will receive that grade at the end of the semester.

If your presence in band (choir), for any reason, starts to limit the group’s achievements you will receive specific requirements or advice from the director, which, if met, or followed will preserve an "A". This may include a practice requirement on a specific number or aspect of playing, an attendance stipulation, or some other agreement with the director.

An unexcused absence from a concert will end ensemble membership.

All members are expected to be present at each concert. Exceptions will only be made for extreme emergencies. These should be arranged for as far in advance as possible. Birthdays, a visit from Aunt Matilda, a ball game, or a chance to go to Disneyland are NOT emergencies. Headaches , sprained joints, and other nonfatal or noncommunicable ailments are also NOT reasons to miss a concert.

Some reasons that I may accept are: your death, the death of a family member or close friend, total incapacitation by accident or disease, or for the finding of your father who has been missing at sea for the last 6 years and who was presumed dead. In that case I might send him a special invitation to hear his son or daughter play a concert with our group. We will dedicate the concert to him as a welcoming gesture on his return to civilization!

Seriously, when you join this group you make a commitment to attend all appointments in so far as is humanly possible. Please take this seriously . . . for I do!
